Bologna, Italy - Ducati is introducing a special version of the newest addition to the Monster family: the S4 Fogarty. This model celebrates Carl Fogarty, the rider whose personality and exciting wins with Ducati Corse in the World Superbike Championships has captivated the hearts of scores of enthusiasts world-wide. It will be produced in a limited edition of just 300 units and may only be ordered through the Internet (www.ducati.com) starting from next June at a price of 18,000 Euros (US $15,826.30; using an exchange rate of 1 Euro = 0.879239 US dollar).
The renowned designer Aldo Drudi, who has designed the leathers and helmets for many of the world’s most famous riders, reinvented the graphics of the Monster S4, for this new model.
The fuel tank, front mud guard, headlight fairing, seat cowl and footpeg brackets, which are the same color as the frame and wheels, have all been specially designed for the S4 Fogarty by Aldo Drudi.
The distinguishing features of this model are an unprecedented dual-color seat in non-skid material, the Foggy logo on fuel tank and headlight fairing, and the Ducati Corse shield on the front mud guard.
The finishing touches to the stylish look of the bike are provided by a set of new carbon accessories, which give the bike a more technical look while improving its performance.
Other significant features are two new radiator cowls, a pair of air scoops for improved heat exchange of the rear cylinder, and the sleek aerodynamics of the pointed fairing wrapped around the bottom end of the crankcase, which provide more loading for improved stability at high speed.
The upgraded chassis features a smoother front suspension thanks to a pair of TIN-coated Showa forks and a carbon steering damper kit placed on a special light alloy mount that offsets harsh steering response for safer sports-like riding.
The engine underwent significant improvements as well. A range of upgrade options are available such as a raised oval carbon-fiber exhaust kit manufactured by the specialist Termignoni, an injection CPU featuring a dedicated calibration and a special air box with relevant frame. The gain in performance is remarkable, increasing the standard 101 HP at 8750 rpm to 110 HP at 9750 rpm put out by the "Fogarty" version.
The performance achieved with the new configuration when the exhaust kit is installed (note that this equipment is not approved for road use and may only be used on the track) is further enhanced by the revised final drive ratio. The standard 37-tooth steel rear chain sprocket has been replaced with a 39-tooth ergal sprocket to obtain a shorter ratio and enhance acceleration and pick-up.
After all of these technical and aesthetic improvements, the bike has shed some weight. Total weight is down from the 193 kgs (424.6 lbs) of the standard version to the 189 kgs (415.8 lbs) of the full-kit "Fogarty" version, which benefits handling, rideability and braking efficiency.
Each bike comes with an exclusive titanium plate etched using laser technology, a special design by the Poggipolini Company, fitted near the fuel tank plug. Etched on the plate are the Foggy logo, his signature and the serial number of the bike.
The bike comes with two (front and rear) paddock stands to facilitate maintenance and an exclusive cover made from stretch fabric.
For further information, starting from May 14th the presentation of the bike will be available on the site.
